Let’s go Shopping

Morrisons have very kindly offered to donate vegetables for our cooking project next week. We will be collecting these at 11am on Sunday. We are offering 4 children the opportunity to come and choose some of the vegetables for us to use. If you would like to have the opportunity to be chosen for this, please bring in a signed letter, stating that you are able to make your own way to Morrisons on Sunday 19th October at 11am and know that any photos taken will be used by Morrisons and ourselves. Children must be supervised by parents at all times during the visit. Names will be drawn out of a hat on Wednesday 15th October and you will be informed of the outcome.

Eleanor’s extract

Today we wrote our own events, inspired by ‘Where the forest meets the sea’. We thought about what we would do before we hid in the tree, looking at which sentence skills to include. Here is Eleanor’s excellent extract!

Cautiously, I step forwards. I feel vines and creepers gripping at my legs. I am forced to push them away and struggle to the vine and creeper-free place. I arrive and my gaze shifts up to see a sky-scraping tree. I am amazed. It must be ancient I think. I suppose old people that lived in the rainforest played here as it is so covered in roots that if you had the energy, you could climb to the top. I start to wonder how wide this tree is so I stumble round….. As I arrive at the other side of the tree, I change my mind about answering that question, as I see a huge hole……….
The beautiful smell of fresh air vanishes and is replaced with a horrible reek of damp leaves. Carefully, I step in and that is when I see it………

I wonder what she saw?

Rainforest writing

We’ve been using our writing skills to write about exploring a Rainforest, based on ‘Where the forest meets the sea’. Here is Ruth’s extract. Can you spot the fronted adverbials?

Last night, we arrived on my father’s green, hidden land. I waited…and waited…Then, all of a sudden, the first bit of sunlight came. My father was still asleep. Slowly and silently, I slipped inbetween the dark trees. In the forest, I gazed up at the skyscraper trees. Suddenly, I found that I was walking on a river bank. I kept getting closer to the edge…Splash!

Max the blogger

In Mrs Saville’s class, as part of our ICT ‘Web 2.0’ work, we are looking at how people can set up blogs to share their thoughts online. We set up one as a class to blog from the rainforest and one of you decided to set one up at home too! Here’s the link to Max’s new blog – he’s had some very creative ideas about what Science he can blog about to reflect our learning in class. I can’t wait to see what else he posts and we will follow it in class. Feel free to post comments on his blog too!
